{"id":358986,"date":"2024-10-09T09:41:55","date_gmt":"2024-10-09T13:41:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/skiesmag.com\/?post_type=news&#038;p=358986"},"modified":"2024-10-09T09:41:56","modified_gmt":"2024-10-09T13:41:56","slug":"boeing-withdraws-contract-offer-after-talks-with-striking-workers-break-down","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/skiesmag.com\/news\/boeing-withdraws-contract-offer-after-talks-with-striking-workers-break-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Boeing\u00a0withdraws contract offer after talks with striking workers break down"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>SEATTLE (AP) \u2014&nbsp;Boeing&nbsp;has withdrawn a contract offer that would have given striking workers 30% raises over four years after talks broke down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The manufacturer said that it had boosted its offer for union workers for take-home pay and retirement benefits during two days of negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, the union did not seriously consider our proposals. Instead, the union made non-negotiable demands far in excess of what can be accepted if we are to remain competitive as a business,\u201d&nbsp;Boeing&nbsp;said in a prepared statement. \u201cGiven that position, further negotiations do not make sense at this point and our offer has been withdrawn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union said that it surveyed its members after receiving Boeing&#8217;s most recent offer, and it was rejected overwhelmingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYour negotiating committee attempted to address multiple priorities that could have led to an offer we could bring to a vote, but the company wasn\u2019t willing to move in our direction,\u201d the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 said in a message to members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boeing-strike-labor-union-machinists-d40b23d9a0d0553a81ebc4de07c7d65d\">complained last month<\/a>&nbsp;that&nbsp;Boeing&nbsp;had publicized its latest offer to 33,000 striking workers without first bargaining with union negotiators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The offer was more generous than the one that was&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boeing-strike-vote-machinists-12d008c0127bab57f8cc9941f48e3ac6\">overwhelmingly rejected<\/a>&nbsp;when the workers went on strike Sept. 13. The first proposal included 25% raises. The union originally demanded 40% over three years.&nbsp;Boeing&nbsp;said average annual pay for machinists would rise from $75,608 now to $111,155 at the end of the four-year contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union represents factory workers who assemble some of the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boeing-strike-workers-what-to-know-923636143d111191eb16c8ac4e4ad0bf\">company\u2019s best-selling planes.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strike is stretching on as&nbsp;Boeing&nbsp;deals with&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boeing-strike-manufacturing-reputation-3eed69b839021b24bfe792080c85b63c\">multiple other issues<\/a>. It has shut down production of 737s, 777s and 767s.
